Lock Out / Tag Out Training. Every year, workers in British Columbia are killed or seriously injured because machinery or equipment was not properly locked out. For example, accidents where workers are caught in machinery can result in severed fingers, crushed limbs, or death. Accidents can be prevented if machinery is locked out properly before obstructions are cleared or other maintenance work is done. Electrical shock, burns, and electrocution can also result if electrical equipment is not properly locked out.
Equipment that is not de-energized and locked out can unexpectedly start when maintenance work is being done, which can result in serious injuries. De-energization is the removing of energy from machinery or equipment. Lockout is the use of lock(s) to render machinery or equipment inoperable or to isolate an energy source in accordance with a written procedure. Maintenance is any work performed to keep machinery or equipment in a safe operating condition. This includes installing, repairing, cleaning, and lubricating the equipment, as well as clearing obstructions to the normal flow of material. Working with electricity can be dangerous. Workers performing service or maintenance on machinery and equipment may be injured by the unexpected startup of the machinery or equipment, or release of stored electrical energy in the equipment. In fact, failure to lock out machinery before working on it is a major cause of injury and death. These deaths and injuries can be prevented by establishing and following an effective lockout/tagout program. This training will tell you more about electrical hazards, safe practices when working with electricity, and the lockout/tagout program and how it can save your life. Ideal learners are any employee who works on or around electrical machinery. Testing conducted throughout this online course is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to pass this course. The course is able to be taken three times in efforts to achieve the pass mark. Printable resources are available in the form of a comprehensive student manual. The manual is a valuable resource for future use and knowledge retention. Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing. This certification has No expiry date.

A CSA & WORKSAFEBC COMPLIANT COURSE
Hazardous energy exists in many forms across a diverse range of industries across Canada. Lockout and Tagout (or LOTO) is necessary to prevent the accident release of such hazardous energy. Lockout and Tagout standards require hazardous energy sources to be isolated and rendered inoperative before maintenance or servicing work can begin, therefore preventing the devastating injuries and deaths caused by unexpected energization. Information in this course follows the CSA standards Z462 – Workplace Electrical Safety and Z460-13 Control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout and Other Methods. This Lockout/Tagout Training course will be presented in four chapters:
